By: Kaylynn Gaspar

The Grammy’s Red Carpet is the ideal location for music’s biggest stars to express their personalities and fashion-sense by displaying their favourite designers’ most beautiful and newest ensembles and accessories, or by wearing extravagant theatrical over-the-top outfits that make them stand out under the spotlight.  This year at the 54thAnnual Grammy Awards, some of the stars captured the essence of their persona through sizzling attire that left the audience in awe, while other stars’ outfits were just plain awful.

Not only did Adele take home six awards (placing her at a tie with Beyoncé for the most Grammy awards won in a single night), she dazzled the world-around with her sequined Giorgio Armani boat-neck gown with three-quarter length sleeves, glittering stilettos, and Harry Winston jewels.  Adele simply sizzled on the red carpet, and we are so glad to have her back after a long five-month recovery following surgery on her vocal chords.

Kelly Rowland shone in this amazing Alberta Ferretti gown with a form-fitting skirt and embellished tulle top. This custom-made blush gown certainly turned heads on the red carpet, especially with the silver embroidery accenting her figure. She paired her dress with stunning Lorraine Schwartz gems.

Currently one of music’s highest billboard chart-toppers, Katy Perry sizzled astonishingly in this pale blue Eli Saab design, which featured a scoop-back, ribbon belt, and three-quarter length sleeves. This dress had two-million dollars worth of Norman Silverman jewels embroidered into it, and she dazzled everybody in the room with her classic up-do of blue locks to go along with the blue dress. The modest neckline adds a classy element to this powder-blue number.

Kelly Osbourne looked absolutely stunning in this off-the-shoulder Tony Ward gown, Giuseppe Zanotti shoes and Pomellato jewels. She has come a long way from her punker pink-haired look from the “Papa Don’t Preach” days.

Rihanna dazzled the red carpet in one of the night’s sexiest and boldest ensembles, this black plunging Giorgio Armani dress with an extremely low-cut back and racy thigh-high slit. This gown was a custom-made collaboration between her and Armani, along with tousled blonde waves, gold accessories and seductive makeup. Paired with Christian Louboutin shoes, a Jimmy Choo clutch and striking gold Neil Lane jewels, this singer stood out as a sizzler.

In a sparkly-black Kaufman Franco strapless gown with a criss-cross motif and Vanessa Leu earrings, Julianne Hough stunningly stood-out as one of the best-dressed singers of the evening. Smiling alongside her boyfriend Ryan Seacrest, Julianne Hough was a sizzling addition to the Grammy’s best-dressed list.

The beautiful Taylor Swift wore a stunning gold cap-sleeve Zuhair Murad Couture gown, which featured a high neckline and train. To fit with her signature nude, sparkly look, she accessorized with Neil Lane jewels and wore her hair in a sophisticated ballerina bun.

Though not loved for her singing voice but rather her impeccable acting skills, Kate Beckinsale lit up the red carpet with her cream one-shoulder Zuhair Murad mini dress with a black velvet bow. She completed this classy look with Sutra earrings and simple black Salvatore Ferragamo pumps.

Forget about the price-tag, Jessie J! In this Julien Macdonald fishtail gown, Jessie filled the venue with glitter as she walked along the red carpet. Having received mixed reviews, Jessie’s disco-ball dress sizzled along with her heavy bangs and a black Lulu Guinness “Lips” clutch.

A nun- really? Nicki Minaj slightly offended some of the audience with her theatrical exorcism of Roman antics. To say that bringing a fake Pope to the Grammy’s as your date is inappropriate is an understatement. In this red Versace cape with oversize black beading at the hem, Nicki flopped on the red carpet as one of the worst-dressed Grammy nominees.

Robyn! What were you thinking? This mullet dress received consistent negative reviews as being one of the 2012 Grammy’s worst-dressed musicians. In a white top, skirt and train with platform boots, Robyn flopped hard.

Sasha Gradiva’s bizarre and apparently Terminator-inspired gun accessories certainly placed her on the 2012 Grammy’s worst-dressed list. Her beautiful Kira Plastinina gown would have been an eye-catching garment, but the guns were far more distracting than her elegant gown.

Fergie-Ferg also received mixed reviews with her bright orange sheer lace Jean Paul Gaultier Couture creation with her black bra and panties visible underneath and gold Neil Lane jewels. Her high-waisted bikini was referred to by some critics as “granny panties”, but her lace mermaid number was shown on the Paris runway just two weeks ago. She boldly paired her ensemble with a Judith Leiber clutch.

Some of the stars certainly dazzled on the red carpet, while some others were dressed far too strangely. What do you think? Some of the night’s craziest looks included Nicki Minaj’s nun-inspired red Versace, Robyn’s all-white outfit and Sasha Gradiva’s bizarre gun accessories.
