Best Actress Oscar Nominee Workouts

It’s time for the Academy Awards again. As Billy Crystal dusts off his hosting suit and shines his hosting shoes, our leading ladies are slipping into scintillating gowns. How, you ask, HOW did she get into that? (I know I usually glance guiltily down at my popcorn while watching those svelte women glide across the red carpet.) Well, we’ve got the latest workout secrets of this year’s five Oscar nominees for Best Actress. Time to get that Oscar-worthy body!

The nominees are Michelle Williams, My Week With Marilyn; Glenn Close, Albert Nobbs; Viola Davis, The Help; Rooney Mara, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo; and Meryl Streep, The Iron Lady.

Here’s how these phenomenal women stay in shape:

Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams is known for loving yoga, especially after founding the Yoga For Single Moms project. Naturally, she practices yoga for relaxation and toning the body. Not fond of yoga? Try her more cardio-centric workouts like jogging or shadow boxing. Michelle’s known for taking time off while filming for a quick jog around the set with her fellow co-stars. So ditch the pantsuit for a jogging suit during your lunch hour and work that heart-rate for 20 minutes!

Rooney Mara

Rooney Mara went through some intense training for her nominated role as Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Since filming, she has enjoyed and continued kickboxing. A fun and invigorating exercise, kickboxing classes are available at most gyms. It’s especially good after a rough day’s work to blow off some steam and feel healthy afterwards!

Viola Davis

Viola Davis stole our hearts as Aibileen in The Help and then wowed us with her beautiful figure at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. While Viola never talks of engaging in any exercise, she has got to be doing some toning and strengthening—just look at those sculpted arms! Try simple free weights at the gym, incorporating moves like bicep curls, tricep extensions and lateral raises.

Glenn Close

Glenn Close has taken on a whole new meaning of flawless with her acting and her skin. How does she keep that face wrinkle-free? Believe it or not, it’s through exercise—facial exercises! Often between takes, Glenn will be caught in a wide-yawn or alternating between scrunching and relaxing her face. These facial stretches help keep those pesky wrinkles away. This is one exercise you can’t claim you don’t have time for! Glenn also believes that a healthy body begins with a healthy mind; of course, she’s completely right! To keep in shape and relax, she is a proponent of the Stott Pilates program. If Stott Pilates is not offered at a gym or studio near you, try any variation of Pilates for the perfect toning and tension-releasing experience. Despite her busy schedule, Glenn always makes time for physical activity, even if it’s just a brisk walk or some stretches at the end of the day. Now that’s my kind of woman!

Meryl Streep

Meryl Streep’s exercise beliefs are similar to her nature: calm and simple. Not a fan of cardio unless it involves fun dancing (remember those Mamma Mia moves?), she loves to swim for exercise. Her workout motto is “Everything in moderation;” something we must always remember.

There you have it, ladies. You don’t need a personal trainer or a lot of time on your hands to get as fit as these five women, just some dedication and perseverance. Remember, your body is what you make it—treat it right!
